Which Digital Marketing Certifications Should I Take?

Digital Certification Exams

A content marketer's learning never ends. The tools in our industry are constantly evolving, and we need to keep up.

And we don't just need to know content. In digital marketing, content is closely intertwined with search engine optimization, search engine marketing, social media, and analytics.

A great way to keep up with your professional education is to become certified in these areas. Fortunately, many certification exams are free and offered through Google. Here are a few I have taken and can speak for,

Google Analytics IQ Exam

This exam tests your knowledge of Google Analytics, a robust platform that digs into your website's audience, user behavior, conversions, and other metrics.

You definitely need to prepare for this exam as it can test anything covered in the Google Analytics preparatory courses.

The exam is free and consists of 70 questions with a 90-minute time limit, but you can finish it in half the time if you're prepared. You need a score of 80% to pass. Once certified, you're good for 12 months.

Google AdWords Fundamentals Assessment

This exam tests your knowledge of Google AdWords, the most powerful platform for running search engine ads and SEM campaigns.

It is free, has a 90-minute time limit and consists of 65 questions. A score of 80% or higher is required to pass and the certification is good for 12 months. If prepared, you can finish in half the time. Should you fail, you can retake it again after one day.

Google offers several preparatory modules for the exam. All of the information is fair game to appear on the exam. If you study these modules, you should be ready to take and pass the exam.

Hootsuite Platform Certification

The Hootsuite Platform exam certifies that you understand the Hootsuite platform, which is a commonly-used social media scheduling and engagement tool in the industry. The platform allows you to efficiently manage multiple social media accounts from one place.

The exam costs $99 and never expires. You have 60 minutes to complete 50 questions and can retake it at no extra cost. A score of 75% is required to pass.

To prepare, create a Hootsuite account and take the preparatory modules. Hootsuite also offers a Social Marketing Certification exam that focuses on general social media concepts.
